Placement tips for Union Reservoir

  • ✓Acreage and longer drives usually have room for any size, including the 30-yard.
  • ✓Soft ground? Tell us — we'll find a firm, level spot so the truck doesn't sink after rain.
  • ✓On a newer-subdivision street, keep it in the driveway; street placement needs a City permit.

Longmont Then & Now

Summers at the Res

Union Reservoir was where you went for fishing and swimming. In high school, ditch days meant one thing: everybody out at the Res.

Union Reservoir — originally called Calkins Lake — formed during the last glacial period and is one of only a few natural lakes in Colorado.

In 1903 the Union Ditch Company began drilling a tunnel to release its water into St. Vrain Creek, turning the lake into a reservoir under Colorado water law.

Today the 736-acre reservoir is a Longmont water supply and a favorite spot for boating, fishing and paddleboarding.
