Placement tips for Prospect New Town

  • ✓Prospect was designed with rear lanes and garages behind the homes. Smaller dumpsters (10 or 15 yard) fit these spaces best.
  • ✓Rear lanes and streets are typically public right-of-way, so a City of Longmont permit may be needed if the dumpster can't sit on your own property.
  • ✓Lots are close together — please give your neighbors a heads-up, and tell us exactly where it should go in your booking notes.

Questions from Prospect New Town customers

Can you place a dumpster in a Prospect rear lane?+

Often, if there's room for the truck to back in and the lane stays passable. Because lanes are usually public right-of-way, a City permit may be required. Text us your address and a photo of the spot and we'll tell you what fits.

Longmont Then & Now

From beet fields to a new old-fashioned town

None of this was here when we were growing up. Pike Road was our shortcut — the fast way around Longmont traffic on Ken Pratt.

The land has deep farm roots. Carl and Bertha Carlson bought an 80-acre farm here in 1919 and grew sugar beets, corn, barley and alfalfa. Their farmhouse, built around 1910, still stands at 10662 Pike Road and was designated a city landmark in 1997.

In the 1970s the property became a commercial tree farm run by Don Ida and R.F. Wallace. R.F. Wallace's son, Kiki Wallace, later turned the land into Prospect New Town.

Planned with Andres Duany's firm — the designers of Seaside, Florida — Prospect was approved unanimously by the Longmont Planning Board in October 1995. It follows New Urbanist ideas: rear lanes, homes close to the street, and shops within a short walk. The main entry road, Tenacity Drive, is named for the fight to get it approved.
